Let’s say you can pick and choose when you ride. You mostly cruise around in good weather, enjoying the ride. The default option works fine here but you might want some gear that doesn’t scream ‘I came by motorbike’ quite so loudly.
There are plenty of casually styled leather and non-waterproof textile motorcycle jackets with CE armour. Team one up with a pair of Kevlar-reinforced denim motorcycle jeans, and you’ll blend in with the general public once you’re off the bike. Leather motorcycle jeans are better. Choose jeans with pockets for slip-in knee protectors.
Don’t be tempted to slip into ordinary footwear, however. Your feet and ankles are extremely vulnerable. Wear proper armoured boots. Alternatively, some boot manufacturers offer casual-style boots but with heel and toe cups, a sole shank, some ankle protection and double-fastening. They don’t protect your shins at all but they’re infinitely better than normal footwear, even though that’s exactly what they look like.
