Getting started

If you’re starting out, or starting again, you won’t have an extensive wardrobe of gear to suit all needs. You’ll need one lot of kit that can cover as many riding situations as possible.

The default option

As well as an approved full-face helmet, you’ll want to be suited, booted and gloved up.

The best all-round option is to get a waterproof textile jacket and pants, in something like Cordura. There should be CE approved armour in the shoulders, elbows, knees and back. Ideally, both will have zip-in thermal liners and the jacket and pants will zip together.

Team these up with waterproof (preferably breathable) boots and gloves, and you’ll have an outfit to cope with 99% of road riding situations. A pair of lighter weight summer gloves, in leather, is a useful addition, offering greater control feel when you don’t need weather protection.
