Boxes of bike bits fetch $1.3 million

Aussie enthusiast’s collection of Brough Superior parts sold at UK auction for $300,000 more than estimate.

Okay, they’re not just any old bike bits: Brough Superiors are rare and expensive. But Mark Upham has been supplying New Old Stock and remanufactured parts for some years, with the recreated Broughs famously taking land speed records at Bonneville. Never the less, it’s interesting to see how valuable original parts can be.

Sydney motorcyclist Gary Ross passed away earlier this year, aged 69, missing out on his dream of reassembling a Brough from parts collected over the years. His widow happened to get a valuation from a Bonhams agent from the UK, persuading her to auction the lot.
