Avalon, twice winner of the FIM European Women's Cup, will be one of only two female riders in the whole World Superbike paddock when the championships start in April. It’s a great move for Av, and a huge endorsement of her talent. The Sourzfoodz Benjan Motorsport team are highly experienced and also contest the European Stock1000 class. The last New Zealander to compete full time in the world championship was Aaron Slight, in the year 2000.
"Since beginning in racing at a go-kart track here in Auckland, one of my biggest ambitions has been to race in a World Championship, to compare myself against the best in the world,” says Avalon. “The new Supersport 300 class is going to produce very close racing and I'm looking forward to getting my elbows out amongst the action – fighting for that World Championship title. It is the perfect place to showcase SoursFoodz who are making this possible and also all my personal sponsors, especially MTF."
Avalon has been here in NZ over the European off season, keeping sharp by participating in a number of local races. We’ll certainly be cheering her on in the year ahead. Keep up to date with Avalon's progress on her website:
