Here’s a nice initiative from Councils in the Wellington region. They’re organising teams of ‘Ferry Fairies’ to give out ‘recharge’ packs to riders on their way down south for the Burt Munro Challenge.
According to a statement by Greater Wellington Council, riders will be met at the Interislander and Bluebridge terminals with recharge packs to sustain them on their 1000km journey to the Deep South. Energy bars, electrolyte sachets and a Bikerider magazine are among the pack contents, designed to keep riders alert and to promote the taking of regular breaks.
“Events like this are really about the journey as much as the destination, says Vanessa Rushton, regional NZTA/GWRC Road Safety Campaigns Manager. “We want people to enjoy themselves and return home safely.” And if you're not going, Vanessa is offering a free tyre pressure gauge and info on training, just email her at vanessa.Rushton@gw.govt.nz
Sounds good. Keep an eye out when you’re approaching the terminals. And be sure to check out what the Ride Forever team have on offer when you get to the event.
