Looking after cables, levers and stands

Everything is exposed to the elements on a motorcycle, so you need to keep a watch on moving parts.

Monthly check

Every month, check:

  • Clutch cable slack. Adjust, clean and lubricate if necessary.
  • Position and action of the brake and clutch levers. Are they exactly where you want them? Adjust if necessary and ensure knurled adjusters are working smoothly.

Clean and re-grease

While you do your monthly check, also clean and re-grease:

  • the side stand pivot
  • both pivot points if you have a centre stand.

Looking after the basic maintenance on your motorcycle is also the opportunity to check everything over visually and make sure nothing is about to fail.
